The machine snake can perform fine surgery through the patient's throat

Release date: 2014-04-10

Robots are currently used for increasing surgical procedures, allowing surgeons to perform very delicate surgical procedures.
The machine snake is a new species of medical robot that can slide into the patient's throat to reach a specific part of the patient's body without incision.
Researchers hope that this flexible device will allow for more advanced surgery in the human body.
The device, called the Flex System, was developed by Medrobotics Corp. based on research by Howie Choset, a robotics expert at Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania.
The original robotic raft was designed for use in nuclear power plants in Austria. This flexible endoscopic system now allows surgeons to reach areas of patients that are difficult to reach by other methods.
The system allows more patients to enjoy minimal trauma treatment while reducing patient waiting time.
After entering the patient's mouth, the doctor controls the machine snake through the handle to pass the organ and avoid the obstacle. The high-definition camera on the head of the device allows the doctor to see where it passes.
The machine snake consists of interconnected segments and can be straightened when necessary. The front end of each link is tightly connected to the previous one to prevent it from accidentally expanding. The camera has a small surgical device that can be operated in the human body.
The device is currently used for surgery on the throat. But in the future, the device may be used to perform complex operations such as heart surgery.
