Awakening maintains the key brain regions and clearly reveals the neural circuit mechanism that maintains wakefulness in the paraventricular nucleus.
For a long time, the thalamus has been presumed to be related to the maintenance of arousal, but the thalamus contains more than 30 nuclei. It is not known which nuclear group plays a key role in the maintenance of awakening.
In the excitatory laws of thalamic neurons in different periods of sleep and awakening, Professor Hu Zhi'an's group found that the activity of the paraventricular nucleus was closely related to arousal, and experimentally confirmed that the paraventricular nucleus plays a key role in maintaining arousal. "It is the paraventricular nucleus that controls the nucleus accumbens and induces the transformation of people from sleep to wake." Hu Zhian said that the discovery has three potential implications for clinical practice.
The first is to help further understand the mechanisms underlying the disease. Paraventricular nucleus damage may be a potential cause of dysfunctional disorders such as lethargy and coma. If the human thalamus paraventricular nucleus is overexcited, it will insomnia, and excessive inhibition will cause awakening. This will help to clearly determine the direction of treatment for diseases such as lethargy, coma, and insomnia; secondly, help identify the intracerebral sites of anesthetic drugs; and finally, in special cases, by taking certain measures, it may be extended according to actual needs or Shorten the duration of awakening, increase or decrease the level of awakening, and let humans really control their "sleep and wake up."
