The Saga Industry and Trade Technology Center of Japan successfully developed a desiccant manufacturing method using shellfish as a raw material.
The new technology will shell (including high calcium carbonate) baking at 1000 °C temperature for 1 hour, and then package processing, can be used as drying agent for seaweed and other foods. Shell desiccant has the same moisture absorption capacity as lime desiccant, and its duration is longer than that of lime, which is safe and sanitary without odor. Shell desiccant can also be used as a neutralizer for bases and acids.
