"Small mosquito" syringe allows the patient to give himself an injection

Release date: 2016-12-07

The "medical engineering" company, an innovative company of the Russian National Research University of Technology, demonstrated a prototype of a device that allows patients to perform intramuscular injections independently. The device, called "small mosquitoes", is controlled by Bluetooth built into mobile devices such as mobile phones, which regulates drug input speed and reduces pain.

The device is a cylindrical box with a syringe containing no more than 5 ml of drug. The system is equipped with a system that adjusts the speed of drug input and a skin sensor. The injection process involves quickly inserting the needle into the syringe and slowly injecting the drug, then quickly pulling the needle out, and only need to press a button to complete the process without causing It is strongly painful and is therefore named "Little Mosquito". In the event of an allergic reaction, the injection can also be interrupted.

Dmitry Vasilyev, co-founder and technical director of Medical Engineering, said: "This process is not only convenient but also very safe, because the equipment is developed under the supervision of a doctor, and users can increase or decrease with the help of mobile devices. The depth of the needle is inserted, and the needle is always inserted at a 90 degree angle, which ensures that the drug directly enters the muscle and reduces the possibility of complications after injection. With this device, when the needle is needed No need to seek outside help. It is convenient to carry 'small mosquitoes' while traveling, or you can keep them in your family medicine box."

The developer plans to develop mobile apps for IOS and Android operating systems, taking into account the user's orders, weights, etc., and will also prompt for injections on a specified schedule. The device is compatible with all standard syringes up to 5 ml and is powered by a regular 5 gauge battery.

The person in charge of the company said that there is currently no product in the world that is identical to this device. Similar equipment is available in Europe and the United States, but they can only be used for subcutaneous injection, or they are not compatible with standard syringes and can only be used to treat certain diseases.

Currently, the R&D team is preparing to register the equipment in the Russian Federal Health and Social Development Supervision Bureau and cooperate with medical units to conduct injection tests. The first products will be sold within the next year.
