According to a study of historical data by Higi, the combination of health monitoring incentives, incentives and challenges helps to lower the user's blood pressure. The company came to this conclusion by examining data from 159000 hypertensive patients in the last three years.
The data collected by higi includes data from the company's health advice, mobile app and network ports. Higi health consultations go from pharmacies, grocery stores or other retail outlets, with more than 10,000 units, and the number is still increasing. According to Higi, they placed a consultation point every five kilometers, covering about 75% of the US population.
According to Khan M. Siddiqui, chief medical officer and CTO of Higi, blood pressure is an important vital sign that most people know and are easy to monitor. When monitoring behavior is encouraged through rewards and challenges, individuals have a strong willingness to use monitoring hardware every day.
Nearly half of the study participants now have their systolic blood pressure below 1409 mm Hg. Patients who logged more than 5 times per month had a systolic blood pressure reduction of 17 mm Hg and a diastolic blood pressure of 9 mm Hg. More than 80% of patients said that blood pressure would drop during the trial.
Higi began focusing on incentive-driven health monitoring a few years ago. By the end of 2013, Higi acquired the challenge and reward platform Earndit. It acts as a system that gives people a more direct reward for their workouts, because the natural delays in exercise returns make us often less motivated.
Last year higi merged with another health consulting company, Stayhealthy.
