Japanese media said that as early as the summer of 2018, the Japanese chemical company Asahi Kasei will be involved in the field of "smart clothing" that only needs to be worn on the body to obtain human body information. It plans to combine medical devices from US subsidiaries with its own electrified fiber products for use in first aid and other applications.
According to the "Nihon Keizai Shimbun" website reported on June 13, Japanese materials companies Toray and Toyobo also plan to implement the practical use of such products in the medical field. Japan's domestic fiber market is saturated, and major fiber companies hope to cultivate smart clothing that uses body information for health management and sports as a new revenue pillar.
ZOLL, a subsidiary of Asahi Kasei, is a global leader in emergency equipment such as life jacket-type automatic external defibrillators (AEDs). Zor is currently developing a flexible conductive fiber "Roboden" developed by Asahi Kasei for life jackets, or automatic external defibrillation based on human body information such as electrocardiogram. This will be used for first aid and condition management.

The Asahi Kasei Fibers Advanced Technology Center is responsible for analyzing the comfort of fiber wear, and it will advance the development of Zor's R&D center in the United States. Asahi Kasei started late in smart clothing and will compete by focusing on the medical device field that is difficult to obtain public agency certification.
