According to foreign media reports, a device recently developed by Harpoon Medical Inc. will revolutionize mitral valve repair to help surgeons repair this particular heart problem without the need for cardiac open surgery. Researchers say the device is a "Harpoon" that has shown 100% safety when performing mitral valve repair. This image-guided device proves to be safer than open heart surgery and the patient can recover in a shorter period of time. The researchers said that after mitral valve repair with Harpoon equipment, the patient could leave the hospital even the next day after surgery.
Researchers at the University of Maryland say that traditional mitral valve repair surgery carries certain risks, such as the need for cardiac open surgery and the use of extracorporeal circulation machines.
